We're leaving for the cabin in the morning, so I figured I'd better post before leaving the internet for a week. (The question is whether I'll sneak the laptop into the car and head to the wireless cafe in town while we're there. Hmm, we need to do laundry daily, right?)
Dan has only worked half a day since last Thursday and it's so nice. Today I've been in a foul mood for no reason I can figure out, but most of the time, things seem to run so much smoother with two parents home fulltime. Well, duh. We are getting to neglected tasks like our yard and gardens--we bought plants on Saturday and planted them Monday and today. I have been completely on top of the laundry. The dishes are getting washed on a regular basis. I cooked all the weird CSA vegetables at dinner (beets, kohlrabi, and summer squash--weird for us at least). Peter's buddy Brennan came over while his mom went to the dentist and Dan jokingly said that we should run a day care because it went so well.
Leo seems to be teething. He prefers to chew human fingers (he's not picky about who they're connected to), but will try teethers or Dan's face when offered. When he was still up at 11:45pm after being almost asleep twice and nursing forever, I gave him a couple teething tablets, but who knows if that's what helped. Poor kid. I can't see any teeth yet, so he may or may not beat Peter's first teeth at exactly 5 months.
We're taking my mom's minivan and Dan's sister on the 200mile drive tomorrow. We're hoping to overlap with naptime so that Leo at least will sleep for most of it. Leo either screams or sleeps in the car and I'll be a nervous wreck if he doesn't conck out by the time we leave the Cities. The van means we can bring an extra toddler-entertainer and we don't have to worry how we'll fit everything. I'm much more worried about the drive than the time while there. Peter was great last summer--there are enough new things to do that he didn't run off into the woods or down to the lake. We'll have six adults and two kids--a great ratio. My sister will be there (with her boyfriend, Dan's cousin), so I'll see more of her there than I have in the past year. Everyone will have one sibling there--I'm curious to see how that works out.
Have a great Fourth of July. I plan to be water-skiing, knitting, playing 500 and Settlers of Catan, sitting by the fireplace, and catching up with family. Yahoo!
