The next time I want to scream and hide in a corner, I'm going to remember that days like today are possible. Some highlights:
We spent the morning at a nature center. There was space for toddlers to run around and lots of unbreakable things to look at. Outside, Peter had a ball running, sitting in leaf piles, and pushing sticks. Leo zonked out in the Ergo.
We stopped at a new-to-us grocery store on the way home and both boys put up with my wandering aimlessly in search of baking supplies quite well. When we used the restroom, Peter didn't put nearly as much toilet paper down as usual.
Leo fell asleep on the way home and napped long enough for Peter and I to eat lunch and roast pie pumpkins. Peter had fun drawing on one of them.
The 60 degree temp meant that we could be comfortably outside at the nature center and spend the late afternoon on our porch. Leo had a blast eating my keys and meandering while Peter turned some extra yarn into a crane for Matchbox cars. We all ate homemade applesauce and Peter took me up on my suggestion to ask me to move Leo when he got in his way rather than shoving him over.
I got to take a nap with Leo when Dan came home, earlier than expected.
Leo only peed in 6 diapers all day. Mr Pees Every Five Minutes usually averages 15 diapers a day even though I catch at least half a dozen pees. He peed twice at the nature center and once at the grocery store, all into toilets, so he was in the same diaper when we came home as when we left, 4 hours later. Maybe, just maybe, we're getting somewhere with this. I was able to go two full days between loads of diaper laundry (isn't it sad that I'm excited about that? I was washing them every day until recently)
Leo's first upper tooth came in yesterday and now he makes silly faces and grinds them.
I made 8 half-pints of pear jam yesterday. I'm thinking that every time our CSA fruit share goes overboard with something that doesn't stay ripe long, I'll make jam this winter. Christmas presents, here we come.
My house is pretty clean, I'm in a great mood, I'm learning how to make a fabulous apple pie from a playgroup friend tomorrow, I just sold a used diaper within 5 minutes of listing it, and everyone else here is asleep. It's nice to be happy.
