Peter's third birthday is coming soon and the talk on the playgroup circuit is all about preschool lately. I'm up in the air about what we'll do--the first of many schooling decisions to make in the upcoming years. We don't have the disposable income to go anywhere without regard to cost, although it seems scholarships are available at the expensive places. The API'ers all seem to love a preschool at an area nature center where they go outside every day year round, but it's the other direction from where we plan to move. Our church offers 2 and 3 day programs that I'd definitely consider if we were staying here. But preschool seems like a great time to try out homeschooling, if I can pull myself together and get organized. I'd like to try a curriculum that's already developed because I can't seem to do any planning on my own. Despite the new Christmas toys all over the house, the TV seems to be on more than ever around here and I could use someone else's creative thoughts. I don't think a formal curriculum (or really anything other than playing) is necessary for any kid under five, but having a prewritten curriculum would give us a constant source of new ideas that are tied together in a cohesive way.
Since it's delurking week, anyone who's been reading in the shadows--why don't you come out and share your thoughts on preschool?
