On September 25th, I took note of all my canned goods out of curiosity to see what I had at that moment. It isn't a complete list of what I canned this season -- in the weeks after that, I also canned pears, apples, green beans, and tomatoes. I haven't canned anything since October 6th when my part of Minnesota froze over. Sometime soon I'll list everything I bought and canned, if only so I can have it for reference in future years. Maybe I'll inventory the pantry again in late December to see how much we consume in three months.
2 qts tomato sauce from 2008 (pre-food strainer; we weren't too fond of the chunkiness and never finished eating them)
15 pts and 1 half-pt salsa
1 pt and 3 half-pts bruschetta
18 qts peaches
6 three-quarter pts and 7 half-pts rhubarb raspberry jam
3 three-quarter pts rhubarb-strawberry jam
2 pts, 2 three-quarter pts, and 1 half-pint strawberry jam
3 pts, 3 three-quarter pts, and 4 half-pints grape jelly
4 half-pts strawberry-fig jam
3 half-pints peach honey
32 qts and 36 pints dill pickles
3 qts and 6 pts tomato soup
1 qt and 7 pts pizza sauce
12 pts spaghetti sauce
27 pts apple sauce
1 half-pint apple butter
3 pts green beans
6 qts and 3 pints beef stew
2 qts tomato juice
5 qts whole tomatoes
5 qts and 3 pints half-tomatoes
5 qts and 1 pt crushed tomatoes
At my rough count, that's about 250 jars. I believe I maxed out in early October with about 325 jars.
(In my freezer, I also have most of the 200 lbs hanging weight quarter beef we picked up in August, half a dozen whole chickens, about 6 gallons of strawberries, raspberries, and rhubarb, and up to five lbs each of a lot of nuts, seeds, grains, and dried fruits. I can get by buying only noodles and cheese at the grocery store and not even notice the lack of newly purchased food.)
