Leo, Dan, and I have all been hit with a nasty cold over the past few weeks. Dan was miserable for almost a week and has since recuperated. Leo's developed into a hacking cough that hasn't quite gone away. I got the week of misery, but instead of getting better, my teeth and jaw began hurting and I was almost glad to realize it had turned into a sinus infection because at least there were meds that would make it better then. The next morning I could actually breathe through my nose and now, a week later (2.5 weeks since it began), I'm down to only a drippy nose and the need to sleep 12+ hours every few days. I love how pregnancy makes every illness drag on and on and on.
Yesterday I had my (long-scheduled, as opposed to all the appointments in February) 16 week prenatal and took the glucose challenge test (early because of my nine pounders). I'm officially up two pounds (I insisted on the digital scale after the other one gave me an extra five pounds last time), my b/p was 102/64, the fundus is right where it ought to be, and the baby's heartbeat was immediately found at the top of my uterus at 150 bpm. The midwife could hear him moving all over the place. I think I might be feeling the baby move now, but I can't figure out if I really am, or if I've just convinced myself of it. One of these days there will be an obvious can't-be-missed kick and for now I'm enjoying imagining things.
I didn't think the glucola was as bad as people said. It could have used ice or some fizziness, but drinking it in a minute or so wasn't too painful. I was able to read three or four magazines while I waited my hour. They called today to say that my result was 95, far below the 140 cut-off, so I won't have to deal with it again until the 28 week appt when I get to retake it.
After nearly two weeks of brown spotting, I think I might finally have seen the end of it, at least for now. The CNM said that if it has been brown this whole time, I don't need to worry about it with the various other examinations and whatnot that we've done already. Assuming no new craziness, I won't go back for my next prenatal until 22 weeks in mid-April. I enjoyed my prenatal with CNM A, who I also saw at 10 weeks. She and I make each other laugh a lot.
I've been taking belly shots every week all this time, but I haven't gotten around to posting them because my camera connects to the laptop and I haven't been using it. My belly is getting visibly rounder and I'm wearing maternity pants with a combination of normal and maternity shirts depending on what's clean. I'm not at the point where strangers comment on my pregnancy yet.
The snow here is finally melting -- I can see my driveway today fully for the first time in three months. Leo and I rode our bikes for the first time for three blocks to the park (which still has a foot of packed down snow next to the getting-slushy hockey rinks) now that the streets are fairly dry, at least down the middle. It feels like spring might come one of these days. After both boys were born right around blizzards, I know March = snow, but it's usually pretty short-lived. We're getting ready for their birthday week.
